As part of its global expansion efforts, Liftango is delighted to announce its continued growth in South America, with the launch of a new on-demand transport platform for Transbus in the city of Cachoeirinha, Brazil.
The new demand-responsive service, named TeuBus, replaces an underperforming fixed route and schedule service. TeuBus is powered by Liftango’s technology and provides the citizens of Cachoeirinha with a more convenient way to travel via 7 minibuses which can be booked, on-demand, through an easy-to-use app. Operators of the service, Transbus, use the Liftango operations platform to run an efficient, fully-digital service with the ability to set service shifts, manage fleet operations and administer booking requests.
TeuBus’ on-demand service runs in conjunction with the existing fixed-route operation that spans 32 buses across the city, and is a direct solution to compete with private ride-hailing services in the area. TeuBus has been launched as a door-to-door service around the city, charging the same fare as the regular service but offering increased flexibility and comfort for passengers.
Following a successful Beta launch in June, the service was officially launched in July by the mayor, Cristian Wassen Rosa. The service is supported by the local government as an innovative, comfortable and improved service for the local citizens. The pioneering new service has attracted great interest and attention from local press as well as the wider public. Transbus already has plans to increase the 7-minibus fleet to up to 16 vehicles, following impressive launch figures with 4100 TeuBus app downloads in the first two weeks alone.
Fernando Casagrande, director and partner at Transbus commented, “We are extremely excited about the implementation of this technology, which is unprecedented in the southern region of Brazil. Consultants Optai introduced the concept to us, and we could immediately see its potential to transform the city’s public transport, which has previously focused on the more traditional modes and shown little appetite for model innovation.”
Kevin Orr, CEO of Liftango, commented, “We are delighted to launch TeuBus with the help of our partners, Optai, as part of our continued expansion into South America. Providing the city of Cachoeirinha with efficient and flexible transport solutions is key for its modernisation and growth. The successful rollout of the new service offers a great reference for other cities in the region to move towards demand-responsive services. We’re excited to keep building equitable and sustainable transport services in South America, and look forward to continuing this fantastic initial success seen so far with Transbus.”
